Final Trailer Released

Just want to start off with a side note. I apologise about the lack of GTA4 news however lately I just haven't had much time to dedicate to the site. GTA Source Version 4 is almost ready to go live, however with lack of time it may take longer than I had hoped. Once it is launched however, expect things to pick back up as the back end system is much easier to manage, therefore I will be updating more, hopefully.

But to some well needed GTA4 news, yesterday the final trailer for GTA4 was released. Head over to the official GTA4 site to view it!

Also keep in mind, as of tomorrow GTA4's release date will only be one month away! Start the timer guys and get your sleeping bags ready for a campout!

PS3 To Blame For GTA4 Delay, Rockstar Admits

When GTA4 was first delayed, there was much speculation that development issues with the PS3 were to blame, and now Rockstar has admitted this is where the fault was.

"Back then that was something we were taking into account. That's not to say there's anything wrong with the PS3 version. It's awesome. They're both identical."

Speaking to MTV's multiplayer blog, Rockstar's Jeronimo Barrera said: "It's really no surprise to anybody that the PS3 was definitely a contributing factor to that." Now though, he says, "we're neck and neck".

Two New Articles Plus 4 New Screenshots!

It's been awhile since the last update, so let's get to it!

Australian gaming site, GamePlayer, has put up a four page preview about GTA4, which includes 4 new screenshots.

GTA4 will feature lock-on and manual free aim targetting systems, like San Andreas did, as well as an advanced cover system to peek around corners and duck behind cars for cover from gunfire.

Players will be able to plot their way to a specific location using waypoints.

The full article can be viewed here.

Gaming Excellence has also posted an article, this one covering the PlayStation Holiday Preview Event in Toronto. It went into minor details about GTA4 multiplayer aspects.

"Oddly enough, some other big games set for release this holiday season were absent .... Set for 2008’s second quarter, GTA IV was also missing, but Rockstar’s man on the scene told GamingExcellence that they had begun testing the various plots and that the developers were considering the possibility of having an open world completely unlocked from the start of the game. We also understand that the game’s multiplayer mode, unseen in the GTA franchise since GTA2 in 1997, is aiming for at least 16 simultaneous players, with more than just the usual deathmatch mode."

Jack Thompson Adds To His Stupidity

According to all knowledgeable Jack Thompson (pffft) one of the first GTA4 missions is a direct target at him and is threatening his "physical safety". Apparently Jack thinks GTA4 character, Goldberg, is him, and threatens to block the release of GTA4 if this character is not eliminated.

"…The fact that the lawyer, killed on Niko’s first mission, would bring up video games, makes it clearly a reference to me… This is not the first time Rockstar Games and Take Two have targeted me in this fashion. Take Two references to me as a bisexual pedophile on its corporate website…"

And then ...

"You have until five o’clock P.M. this Friday… to inform me that you are going to delete the above references and any other references that could reasonably be construed to be references to me in Grand Theft Auto IV and any other video games that are pending release…"

GamePro Magazine Preview, Airbourne to feature in GTA4?

We've obtained a few new bits of information about GTA4. Very minor stuff but still better then the bunch of nothing on the GTA4 news front lately!

Billboards can be seen advertising "Shark Credit Cards," "Pirate Music" and "The Whiz" (The Whiz being the type of phone Niko uses).

The HUD is described as "minimalist to its core." There is a mini-map, a "low-key" cash counter, and they say that the HUD in general looks more clean than in previous GTAs.

Ammu-nation is gone, replaced by new ways of aquiring guns (Niko's illegal arms dealer, Jacob).

The rocket launcher will return (thank god).

One of the female pedestrians screams "this sh*t is bananas!" from her vehicle.

A fare meter appears on-screen as soon as Niko enters a cab, and the camera pans around it as it drives.

The little green guy on crosswalks is crisp and clear.

Clothing in GTA4 is described as "customizable, and also realistic."

The cover system borrows elements of Gears of War, and Rainbow Six: Las Vegas. Also, the aiming is a Resident Evil 4, over the shoulder style.

And unrelated to this article, according to Games Industry, Australian band "Airbourne" are set to feature in the GTA4 soundtrack ...

March 4 2008: New GTA4 Release Date?

According to both the GameStop and EB Games websites, GTA4 will be pre-released on March 3rd, 2008. This leads us to believe that the new official release date is indeed March 4th, 2008. Another reason to believe this assumption is the fact that GTA has almost always been released on a Tuesday, and the 4th of March is, indeed, a Tuesday.

We await an official announcement from Take-Two, however I think it is safe to say the new GTA4 release date is Tuesday, March 4th, 2008.

GTA4 Delay: PS3 to Blame?

According to analyst Michael Pachter, complications with the PS3 have caused the GTA4 delay, and due to an agreement with Sony, Rockstar can not release the Xbox 360 version before the PS3 version.

"We think it is likely that the Rockstar team had difficulty in building an exceptionally complicated game for the PS3, and failed to recognise how far away from completion the game truly was until recently."

Pachter also added ...

"We think it is also likely that Take-Two had a contractual commitment to Sony that it would not favour competitor Microsoft by launching the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV prior to launching the PS3 version, and believe that any delay of the PS3 version necessitated a delay of the Xbox 360 version."

We hope to hear an official word from Take-Two sometime in the near future, but for now, don't go out buying a lawn chair for that first place position in your local Wal-Mart's GTA4 line just yet.

GTA4 DELAYED

Grand Theft Auto 4 has been officially delayed.

"Take-Two is reducing its fiscal 2007 guidance primarily to reflect the movement of the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007 to fiscal 2008, due to additional development time required to complete the title. The title is now planned for release in the Company's second quarter of fiscal 2008. Additionally, Take-Two is updating third quarter and fiscal year 2007 guidance to reflect the movement of Manhunt 2 for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system and the Wii™ out of the third quarter and the fiscal year."

We can now expect to see GTA4 released sometime after February. No new official release date has been given.

Gaming Websites Preview GTA4

What a couple of days it has been! We've had several new previews released to us based on a recent demo. Here are a few major points we gathered from Kikizo.

This demo takes place on the Xbox 360 just like all the previous ones.

The game now has more stable graphics which allowed the development team to push the limit of the code by adding in more fast pace driving,shooting,etc around the entire city.

Rockstar did not want to mention any exact song names but there will be songs by these the artists Fela Kuti's Sorrow and Tears and Blood.

The main point of the preview was to see the fundamentals of the game and how the structure of missions and freedom of game play.

The story will not play out like the old GTA ones where a low life comes up to big money and fame. It will follow Niko Bellic who simply goes from small time to a little better. Not some big shot character like the other GTA's.

The story starts out with the main character waking up at Star Junction which then shows off many characters and the full potential of the graphics.

The whole story starts out with a police officer having some "Dirt" on the main character Nikolai and he simply asks him a few favors and he will keep his mouth shut.

Weapons are a main part of the game like with any other GTA. The damage effects of the weapons are more amazing then ever before.

Another option to avoid driving is to hail a cab and you can request it to take you to places. When in the cab the camera will change to a stunning view of the city also you will be able to interact with the cab driver if you choose.

Keeping up with the times Rockstar has put in a in-game Internet café that will allow you to use your Xbox 360 to visit many web sites that will relate to the game.

The default camera angle is slightly over to the drivers' side now, but can be adjusted.

The texture and detail in the city is the highest quality seen in any next-gen game in a realistic setting so far!

Street names pop up at the bottom right as entered.

GTA4 is still on track and should be released on it's specified date of October 16.

Some GTA IV Details up to Date

Some Details

* Main Character: Niko Bellic (Picture Below)
* Other Characters:
* Roman
* Elizabeta
* Single Player: Yes
* Multi-player: Yes, confirmed but no details yet
* Episodic Content: Two pieces of content for Xbox 360 in 2008, possibly PS3 later on
* Graphics: Uses Rockstar Advanced Graphics Engine (RAGE)
* Physics: Uses NaturalMotion euphoria
* Location: Liberty City, broken up into five areas:
* Brooklyn is Broker
* Manhattan is Algonquin
* Queens is Dukes
* The Bronx is Bohan
* New Jersey is Alderney
* Sea/Air: Helicopters and boats but no planes

The Character: Niko Bellic

Niko Bellic is the main character and is described by Rockstar as "tough." His home was in Eastern Europe, and he likely may never have traveled to Liberty City if it wasn't for his cousin Roman who is described as a "friendly buffoon" by Rockstar. Life wasn't going well, and Bellic turns up in Liberty City because he's been receiving e-mails from Roman that are full of lies about how great he is doing in America. Roman is actually in trouble.

However, Niko knows that Roman is the only person he knows in America. Roman serves as one of his main friends, motivations, and connections at the start of the game. Unlike San Andreas, players won't get a chance to see Bellic in his homeland. You will see his life unfold from the moment he steps into Liberty City.

Why Liberty City?

Dan Houser, the creative vice president of Rockstar Games had the following answer when asked why Liberty City was chosen for GTA IV:

"[New York City] is an environment we felt had never been done to the level we were envisioning it in a video game. From looking at all of the locations, this was the one that really stood out to us, and really had that impact. It has all of these iconic things that you couldn't put into a game before."

In another magazine article, Houser explained again with this:

"We've always wanted to do New York properly. With GTA III, we were dealing with so many technical issues and design issues about making a game like that, that we didn't really think that trying to make somewhere like a real place was important at the time and then we discovered later that that gave an added element of content to the place.

We've got a full time team of researchers and photographers in the office in New York who get emails from the artists in Scotland saying, "Hey can you find out what this building's like, or what the traffic flow's like around here?" or the designers want to find out how the law systems work. We wouldn't be as confident doing a next-gen game the way we wanted, somewhere we didn't have a base."

Games Aktuell and OXM: New Details Emerge!

We have received new insight from two new GTA4 previews. The latest editions of both Games Aktuell and Official Xbox Magazine (US) both feature GTA4 previews. They appear very similar to the previews we reported on last week, however there are a few timbits in them you may find interesting.

From Games Aktuell:

Niko will be able to break into houses at nighttime. He can also rob stores.

Police will have a K-9 unit which they will use to find you.

One online multiplayer mode will be free-roam - split screen multiplayer hasn't yet been confirmed.

You can buy weapons from both Jacob and Amunation. When you buy certain guns from Jacob, different and better ones will be unlocked.

Body Armor is now visible on anybody wearing it, and can still be purchased from Amunation.

The "duck-n-cover" system will play like Gears of War.

All single player missions are complete. Rockstar is now working on multiplayer missions.

From Official Xbox Magazine:

In the demo, Jacob supplied Niko with: 9mm, shotgun, SMG, and Micro SMG.

You'll be able to access the "Statue of Happiness" by boat or swimming.

The Comet is confirmed to be returning. Niko steals a black Comet in the demo.

9/11 and ground zero will not be referenced in GTA4.

Niko was on the Balkan Peace Force, and is proficient in swimming, shooting and boxing.

Minor New Details in OPM Australia

The August edition of OPM Australia has given a few more details to top the big load of information given by last week's GamesTM article.

Cops will now increase their long-range shot accuracy by crouching when shooting.

Eating and sleeping will recharge your health. There are no health pickups hidden around the city.

Central Park's huge size will make up for there being no countryside in GTA4.

Locked cars can now be broken into, however take much more time to get moving than vehicles that are unlocked.

Niko's cellphone will be like a real cellphone (daily calender & organizer, text messaging, camera, and multiplayer).

New GTA4 Preview in GamesTM

The August issue of GamesTM contains a world exclusive first look at the new gameplay in GTA4. Here's what we have learned.

Times Square is called Star Junction.

"Little Jacob" is a Caribbean arms dealer, and an associate of Niko who supplies him with weapons. Niko can purchase weapons through his cell phone now.

Taxi transportation is available around Liberty City, including the ability to call for a taxi using Niko's cell phone. The "Trip-Skip" option will return.

You will be able to access the internet from any computer in Liberty City. The internet "provides a hub for all sorts of interactivity".

Missions can be interrupted. Some missions may take place over several days, and during waiting periods, you can carry out other business.

Committing crimes is much more difficult now - You only gain a warrant for committing a crime if a witness is present. When you gain a warrant, a circular search area appears on the radar, and if you escape the area without being spotted, your warrant level will flash and eventually go away. If you are spotted, the search area will grow larger with the center point being where you were spotted. Cops will use their radio to track you down and communicate where you are and what your driving - only if you are spotted by one can they go after you. The police are also more vigilant and smarter than in previous GTAs, and you can not escape the law simply by visiting a Pay N' Spray anymore.

If Niko takes a lot of damage, he becomes less able to fight. Damage is now actually visible.

The draw distance is "unreal".

First GTA4 Voice Actor Revealed

We have had our first voice actor confirmed. Her name is Ruslana, and she is a Ukrainian singer. We do not yet know which character she will be voicing ... Rockstar is being very quiet about that. We'll bring you the latest!

This information was originally found on EscToday, however seems to have been taken down recently, probably at Rockstar's request. Stay tuned!
